Protecting Your Home from Wildfire

Wildfire Sprinkler™ provides protection for homes, buildings, and other structures that are at risk from wildfire. We have installed hundreds of our reliable, cost-effective protection systems throughout the Upper Midwest (Minnesota, Michigan), Intermountain (Colorado), Southwest (Arizona), and Far West (California) regions of the United States. Because our systems replicate the Nature's best defense against wildfires (2 or more inches of rain), they been have proven to be 100% effective. Our customers include private and commercial property owners as well as local, state, federal and foreign fire suppression agencies. If you own property that is at risk from wildfire, Wildfire Sprinkler offers a number of different products and services that are adapted to the your property's geography and hydrography.

Based on scientific research and fire tested, our products integrate reliable and proven technologies for automatic fire detection and threat response. Because our systems run on propane fuels and use tiny amounts of biodegradables, they are environmentally friendly. They protect against the extremely dangerous flame, heat and wind of wildfires, such as the 100-foot horizontal flames in the recent Ham Lake Fire, where 125 buildings were saved by our Wildfire Sprinkler Protection System™.

How Our Systems Work: Creating a Microclimate with Sprinklers

Wildfire management professionals know that the most effective way to stop an encroaching ground fire or crown fire, as well as to extinguish the firebrands that are tossed ahead by a wildfire is to achieve three objectives:
  1. increase humidity
  2. lower the temperature of the immediate area
  3. hydrate (soak) potential fuels, thus making these fuels less susceptible to ignition
Our sprinklers create a micro-climate that achieves all three objectives, thus stopping the fire cold. Our experience has shown that wildfires bypass the “green circle” of the wetter, cooler micro-climate created by our systems. During the Ham Lake Fire, 100’ horizontal flame lengths were observed that directly attacked structures with a WSPS™ micro-climate. A witness stated, “After the smoke cleared, I was amazed to see the structures and vegetation around the structures untouched!”

Designed for Reliability

Because electric power, municipal water, satellite communications, cell phone and telephone infrastructure are under severe risk of failure during wildfire emergencies. Because our products can either work with existing water resources or else include water sources (e.g. buried cisterns) as part of the installation. Our self-contained wildfire defense system can be triggered automatically or manually without depending on communication infrastructure.

Designed for Your Region

Our products and systems can be configured for areas with abundant water resources (Minnesota and the Upper Midwest) or scarce supplies of water (Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona and California). The Wildfire Sprinkler Protection System™ typically uses a centrifugal pump connected to a contiguous source of water such as a lake or well, and has been extensively used and tested in northern Minnesota and elsewhere. The Wildfire Shield™ was developed to overcome the challenges of protecting structures without sufficient water resources in the wildland/urban interface, such as in the recent California wildfires in fall 2003. Wildfire Sprinkler also offers a third, hybrid system that uses standing water in swimming pools, hot tubs, ponds, etc. This configuration combines the sprinkler design with manual or automation technologies of the other two systems.

Agency Approved

The original Wildfire Sprinkler protection system was developed in 2000-2001 under the auspices of a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) to “effectively reduce the threat of wildfire to structures within the wildland-urban interface”. Since then, the many different agencies working at local, county, state and federal levels have embraced Wildfire Sprinkler Protection Systems™ as the most effective way to save properties and reduce the terrible personal and public cost of wildfires. Insurance companies are now actively encouraging homeowners in areas that are at risk to install our systems.

Fire tested tough, our Wildfire Sprinkler Protection System™ makes rain, Nature’s defense against wildfire.
