Smart Energy

Wildfire sprinkler systems have traditionally been powered with 2-cycle, gasoline engines. Wildfire experts have long recognized the risks and problems associated with this type of fuel, including problems with starting and proper maintenance. In 1999, Wildfire Sprinkler, Inc. investigated the use of an alternative fuel to gasoline as an energy source for centrifugal pumps for wildfire protection. Our research showed that four-cycle engine powered centrifugal pumps had the highest performance in both volume and pressure. We also wanted to improve the reliability and runtime of these gasoline powered pumps. We turned to propane and multifuel engines made by Briggs & Stratton, as well as other manufacturers.

Our multifuel and propane technology features:

  • Unlimited storage life
  • More reliable starting
  • Allows for remote starting without choking
  • Powers a pump unattended for longer run times (in excess of 24-hours)
  • Safe to store and transport
  • Environmentally sensitive; no spilled gas
  • Readily available and inexpensive

Recommended by Firewise as an effective wildfire mitigation tool for structure protection, our propane and multifuel powered engines will run unattended for over 24-hours. We offer both single-fuel (propane) or multifuel (propane or gasoline) pumps from 2hp to 26hp. These pumps are typically used in structure sprinkler protection systems and for fire line anchoring.
